the Beekeepers workshop

As a beekeeper, I was especially excited when Richard, my fellow beekeeper, asked me to design a workshop for his most coveted hobby. The humble honeybee is one worth protecting, and having a dedicated space to nurture your colonies and prepare / maintain their hives is a necessity.

the brief

Design a workshop space that will be dedicated to all things beekpeeing.

  • Warm & dry in the colder months, when time in the workshop is at an all time high preparing for the upcoming season

  • Dry and comfortable during the warmer months when ongoing maintenance and extraction is always on the go

  • Lots of light!

  • a greenroof to support pollinators in the garden

  • and construction begins - day 1

  • sedum green roof installed - day 2

  • exterior cladding begins and potting bench ready - day 3

  • cladding continues, windows and oversized door installed - day 4

  • floor laid and workbench built - day 5

  • finishing touches, including a surprise hive tool handle
