Customer request:

As a little boy I remember helping my father feed the cattle in this trough. It’s been part of our farm for a very long time. However life in the barn hasn’t been kind to it… this Victorian era cattle trough still has some life in it, can you restore the original timber frame and build it into an log store for our recently converted barn?

The outcome

The outcome really speaks for itself. As much of the original timber was restored and cared for as possible - there was a fair amount of rot and wood worm to deal with. Everything left was carefully planned down and sanded by hand, new lap and rebate joints cut out, reassembled and finished with bog oak dowels. The entire log store was oiled using Gilboy’s Hard Wax oil, while the oak box, made using 200 year old reclaimed floor boards from a church, was waxed with Gilboy’s Antique Wax.
