The client brief: we have 6 garden benches that are in desperate need of restoration - we do not want to buy new unless we absolutely must!

Restoration of these 6 garden benches offered a great challenge: 3 needed to be sanded and treated which is quite straight forward, while the other 3 needed proper care and attention. Dealing with rot, replacing timbers, making long-term plans for further restoration work.

The 3 benches in need of a hefty sanding and treatment were first in line - the results are outstanding. A days work and these 3 were swiftly returned to the rightful place in the garden. We use ‘LifeTime Wood Treatment’ from Valhalla Wood Preservatives in Canada - hands down the best wood treatment for any outdoor garden project.

Sapele was the timber of choice, working with a local provider I sourced some magnificent pieces which required further processing for each individual bench. ‘Ripped’, planned and thicknessed to the appropriate dimensions, assembly day was very exciting. Everything came together almost exactly as planned (these jobs are never without their hiccups)… and again the benches were returned to the garden ready to be enjoyed.
